On the evening of Monday, August 1, 2022, severe thunderstorms impacted portions of southeast Illinois, southwest Indiana, and the Kentucky Pennyrile. The Evansville metro area was particularly hard hit by damaging winds. Up to 28,000 electric customers in and near Evansville were without power in the aftermath of the storm due to widespread tree and powerline damage. Other communities that were impacted by wind damage included West Louisville, Madisonville, and Crofton in western Kentucky. Heavy rain also produced flash flooding across portions of southeast Illinois and southwest Indiana.
